The Galloway Glens Scheme came to an end in September 2023 after a fantastic 5 years supporting the communities of the Ken/Dee valley. The legacy of the Galloway Glens can be seen in many concrete ways, including a suite of new footpaths across the area and renewed community buildings and assets.

Children from all around the Glenkens joined the Carsphairn based children's group Bairn Banter for a haunting Halloween party in Lagwyne Hall on Saturday 2nd November.

Carsphairn held their annual community market on Saturday 7th in Lagwyne Hall, as part of the Glenkens Food month, which runs throughout the month of September.

The Carsphairn children’s group, Bairn Banter have had a very productive and hands on learning experience focusing on producing their own food for free.

The Great Corsock Show is coming! On Saturday, 24th of August, this much-loved Stewartry tradition will allow the great and the good of home baking, crafting, scarecrow fashioning, vegetable growing and homemade drink brewing to cheerily pit their skills against each other.

A free full-day conference for charities, community groups and social enterprises across Dumfries and Galloway.

Saturday 15th June was a milestone for the Glaisters Bridge Community Woodland Site, near Corsock. New paths have been cut enabling access around the site and 250 trees were planted by a band of volunteers.

From the 4th of June the Glenkens Community Shop in Dalry will be opening on Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm during the summer.

The Social Group has collated all the recipes into a booklet and they are on sale in the Carsphairn Tearooms and the Heritage Centre at a cost £5, the proceeds going to The Community Larder & Food Bank Charity at Stepping Stones in Castle Douglas.

March saw Dumfries and Galloway Council Elected Members approve a Motion to halt the mothballing of any secondary schools across the region until a robust policy on mothballing was created that took into account the wider socio-economic impacts of such a decision.

Children of Carsphairn and the wider Glenkens enjoyed an egg-citing Easter fun day in Carsphairn on Saturday 30th March.

The gathering took a different format this month as all members provided baking to be tasted and brought the recipe along.

UK Government Minister for Scotland John Lamont has visited New Galloway to tour the refurbished Town Hall and meet representatives from community groups.

Dorothy introduced Bruce Haggerty who is a vet with the Stewartry Veterinary Centre in Castle Douglas. Bruce told members and friends about his journey towards and within his life as a vet.

New Galloway has launched a fundraising appeal with a book and baking extravaganza in its historic Town Hall, raising more than £600 for the purchase of a community freezer that will help to reduce local food waste and make nourishing food available to the community at the same time.
