Community Action Plan (CAP) - Overview
In 2020 the Glenkens and District Trust (GDT) commissioned a Community Action Plan for the Glenkens and district area (covering Balmaghie, New Galloway & Kells, Dalry, Balmaclellan, Corsock & KPD, Parton and Crossmichael Community Council areas ) in order to ensure that local funds are distributed wisely and strategically.
Although wind farm fund distribution was a key driver to initiating the plan, the reach of the Community Action Plan goes beyond projects funded through that source and aspires to be a road map for the whole community over the next 5 years and beyond.

GDT is determined that the Community Action Plan doesn't end up sitting on a shelf getting dusty, but remains a living document, owned and delivered by the community. Glenkens Community and Arts Trust (GCAT) was identified as being a key local community development organisation that has the right expertise, an appropriate area of operation and the capacity to deliver on the ambitions and priorities set out in the CAP.
Funding from Blackcraig Wind Farm Community Fund and the South of Scotland Enterprise Agency has allowed the creation of the post of Executive Manager at GCAT, whose responsibilities include leading the CAP process going forwards.
GCAT co-ordinates the Glenkens & District Community Action Plan Steering Group, a group of nine people of all life experiences and interests from across our communities, who will review progress against the Plan, suggest interventions if some actions aren’t getting done, and ensure that the Action Plan remains up-to-date and relevant as our communities change.
