Saturday 23rd of August is a date for the calendar, with the return of the Great Corsock Show. This Galloway institution is now approaching its 20th year!

Show programmes are in local shops, or available online including on the Glenkens Hub. Your entries can be dropped off on the Friday night or on Saturday morning until 10.45am, when the doors are sealed for the judging to take place.

At 1pm the ribbon is cut and all are welcome to assess the entries, enjoy the café, BBQ and bottle stall.

Last year’s judge’s category (‘Cake containing a vegetable’) was so wildly popular that his has been incorporated into the regular running order. This year’s Judge’s challenge is ‘an individual cheesecake’, with ‘local wildlife’ the photography theme. At 2.30pm awards will be presented, with time then for the famously feisty and competitive auction. All welcome!

A member of the organising committee, McNabb Laurie, said:

“The Great Corsock Show is open to all and offers a chance for you to try your baking, crafting or growing skills against others across the region. We have the children’s section and something for all ages.

There are 59 categories in all. That is 59 shots at greatness.”
