Dalry Film Club - Red Rose (PG)

Dalry Film Club - Red Rose poster

As our Burns’ Night celebration, we are showing the film Red Rose which covers the last years of the poet’s life (1790 to 1796).

With his fame as a poet growing Burns had moved his family in 1788 to Ellisland Farm near Dumfries where he continued to write many poems and lyrics. However, the farm struggled and the family moved to Dumfries where Burns worked as an Exciseman. Here he also formed a close but doomed relationship with the sister-in-law of his patron, Robert Riddell.

Much of the film was shot in this area, with local people providing some of the extras. We are also delighted t have the film introduced by Mairi Sutherland who wrote the screenplay.

Within the ticket, we will be offering a range of non-traditional Burns’ Night fare, both savoury and sweet, in buffet style.

Films start at 7.00pm with doors open at 6.30pm.

Cost: £10, tickets at the door (cards accepted) or via Ticket Source.
